The Italian Department of Bucharest University (the oldest and the most prestigious in Romania) was founded in 1909 by Prof. Ramiro Ortiz. Ever since the number of its students has continuously increased (from 7 students every two years twenty years ago to over 350 students nowadays). There are three different types of studies in our Department: the traditional philological studies and two recently founded sectors dedicated to Applied Modern Languages and to Interpreters and Translators. There are 12 most gifted professors in our Department who teach a great variety of lectures (old, classical and modern Italian literature, Italian civilization, Italian morphology, syntax and lexicology, Italian dialectology, Special techniques in written and oral translation from and into Romanian etc).
Oana Salisteanu Cristea, prof.dr., is head of the Italian Department. Since 2000 she has been teaching (and written two books) about the various Italian specialized languages used in economy, commercial correspondence, administration, law, medical life, journalism, politics etc, a great didactical and lexical advantage for the purpose of this project.
